Midwifery Services at Triangle OBGYN The Best of Both Worlds
By Kimberly Sniffen, CNM, MSN
Triangle OB/GYN is proud to be the only practice providing midwifery services to women giving birth at Wake Med Cary hospital. The practice hired its first midwife over eight years ago and the response was so positive that we now have two fulltime midwives on staff. Dr. Vulgaropulos said recently, “The simple truth about our midwives is that our patients fall in love with them. They render wonderful, nurturing services and provide invaluable assistance to our physicians.”
Though midwives have been around for centuries, there is still much confusion today about their roles and capabilities. Probably the most frequently asked question we hear from those new to our practice is, “What exactly is a midwife?” Hopefully this article will not only answer that question but will also help people to understand why we at Triangle think that we offer the best of both worlds to our expecting couples.
The word midwife means “with woman.” The term conjures up many different images, in part to the fact that they have been helping women through childbirth for centuries. The women in the community trained to do this were referred to as midwives. For decades, the knowledge these women possessed had been passed down to them through the generations. They were the experts long before childbirth moved into the hospitals with physicians in the early 20th century.
We have moved out of our Rex satellite office to be centrally located in Cary. Obstetric patients will be seen at 400 Asheville Ave Suite 300 and Gynecology patients on the second floor, Suite 200.
We are proud to introduce Triangle Specialty care and Image Center, providing services such as:
weight loss management
massage therapy
laser hair removal and spider vein
treatment
Brava non surgical breast

HORMONE UPDATE
The results of the Women's Health Initiative (WHI) have called into question the plethora of prior case controlled and cohort studies that support the use of hormone replacement therapy for menopausal symptom relief and prevention of heart disease and osteoporosis. The WHI, being a randomized clinical trial, has been widely accepted without very careful analysis.
